Quick Movie Review – The Getaway

the Getaway (1972)

Carol Ainsley McCoy: Well I just wouldn’t worry about that Doc, because I can always get you out, you know I can screw every prison official in Texas if I have to!

Like most of Peckinpah’s movies, it’s the story of a bunch of dirty, angry killers, a huge sum of money at stake, and a series of back stabs and betrayals.  Maybe not quite as memorably brutal as Straw Dogs or the Wild Bunch, but it’s a solid heist/getaway film with a fantastic cast and Peckinpah’s unique brand of violent nihilism.

Can you tell me about some great movies released this year? Many thanks in advance for your help! 🙂

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy – Cold War spy mystery with a great cast
Mission Impossible 4 – mostly mindless flick with great visuals and action
    Drive – a fantastic retro drama/crime piece
The Muppets – If you don’t love muppet films, you may not have a heart
Sherlock Holmes – Dumb, but decent for action and banter

Those are the ones I’ve seen, I’ve heard The Artist, Tree of Life, Take Shelter, Warrior, and Meek’s Cutoff are supposed to be quite good as well.
